Polaroid collections
Polaroid pictures are all the more fascinating now that they stopped producing Polaroid films. There are loads of Polaroid collections on the web, and here I tried to make a selection of those I thought were more beautiful and/or interesting than others.
On Flickr...
Of course, Flickr is filled with Polaroid-related groups and sets. I took my time to browse as much as I could and selected a few that had something special.
I love Polaroid
Yeah. Me too.
The Polaroid - B&W
Though Polaroid pictures are often loved for their very specific color schemes and effect, this group focuses on black and white photography only.
Polaroid abuse
If you want to see what happens when you tear, scratch or pour stuff on your Pola pics.
Polaroid Images Transfers and Emulsion lifts
This one is exactly what it claims to be.
Polaroid cars
This group was started by an old car fan and now gathers 384 members.
Polaroid Postcards
I love this one because it combines mail-art and Polaroid.
Multiplex Exposure Polaroid
Eerie pictures created by multiple exposures of the film.
Polaroid portraits
They seem to have something special that make you feel closer to their subjects.
Polaroid Kids
Portraits again, but only children there.
Polaroid Night
Long exposure and mysterious nightly scenes.
Polaroid Sunrise/Sunset
Beautiful skies with Polaroid specific rendering of colours.
Polaroid Macros
Closeup photos taken with Polaroid cameras using closeup lens attachments.
Don't stop here and go check all Polaroid-related groups.
...and elsewhere
Polanoid
They are actually building the biggest Polaroid picture collection of the planet to celebrate the magic of instant photography
. With nearly 180.000 pictures and more than 12.500 contributors, it's indeed the richest gallery around. Tags make it easy to find stuff of interest quite quickly.
Some photos of that day
The recently re-discovered collection of pictures taken each day by Jamie Livingston from March 1979 until his death in October 1997. I know everybody has heard of this site now, but I can't help mentioning this fascinating testimony.
Polaroid Passion
A French-speaking website for Polaroid enthusiasts. Don't let our twisted language stop you from exploring their rich galleries ;)
Professional photographers
There's a Professional Photography Portfolios page on Polaroid.com presenting very interesting work by, well, professional photographers. I picked my favourite three.
Anatoly Jaldin
Deliberately out-of-focus pictures taken with an SX-70.
Anna Robotka
Urban landscapes and multiple exposures.
Jenelle Norris
An exploration of the random outcomes of Polaroid manipulation.
More, please!
Still hungry? Want to keep them all for yourself and look at them over and over again? Well, if you haven't already done so, I recommend you run to your nearest bookshop and grab the fantastic Polaroid Book published by Taschen. It's really cheap considering the quantity and quality of the reproductions (and it looks quite nice on your coffee table).
