October 9th is Hangul day, when Korean people celebrate their alphabet. The Korean alphabet works pretty much as our Latin alphabet: vowels and consonants are combined into syllables and words, which sets it apart from both the Chinese system and even the Japanese Kana system where characters represent full syllables.

But beyond the intriguing, alien-like visual aspect of Hangul, if you want to know how fascinating this alphabet really is, go and read Jonathan Hoefler's post The world's most perfect script. I promise the title is not overrated.
